DSB Siemens Vectron EB 3202, Blender model
Created by Darren Wilden (dwinnovation.dk) · Version 1.0 · November 2026 · Licence: CC BY 4.0 (commercial use allowed, credit required)
A detailed, real-scale model of the Danish State Railways electric locomotive EB 3202, a Siemens Vectron AC of the DSB EB 3200 class. It is made for close-up rendering in Blender Cycles, with working pantographs, modelled cab interiors and the full EB 3202 lettering.

How the model is built
The scene has one collection, Vectron_EB3202, with these
parts:
- Body: the body shell and cab shells, lofted as smooth surfaces. The nose module joints are dark seal strips.
- Cab: the windscreens and door windows with gaskets, the doors, door hardware and step ladders, and both cab interiors.
- Roof: the shoulder grilles, roof grilles, cooling fan with wire guard, and the roof line on post insulators, with the main circuit breaker, earthing switch, voltage transformer, transformer bushing and cab roof antennas.
- Pantographs: four single-arm pantographs, two per end, each raised and lowered with one slider (see below).
- Bogies: frames with a dropped centre, wheelsets with brake discs that have 16 real through-bores each, axleboxes on swing arms, primary and secondary springs, dampers, traction motors, brake units, life guards and sanding pipes.
- Underframe: the transformer tank, compressor and equipment boxes, brake and main reservoir pipes.
- Front_End: the headstock, UIC buffers, screw coupling, hoses with cocks, plough, lamp units and corner steps.
- Interior: cab daylight and interior parts.
- Decals: the DSB logos, EB 3202, "91 86 0003 202-6 DK-DSB", SIEMENS and Vectron lettering, cab numbers, warning signs, dimension marks, labels and the builder's plate.
- Cutters: hidden helper objects that the Boolean modifiers use. Do not delete them, or the windows, doors and pockets will lose their shape.
- A 400 m stretch of track on a ground plane (
Scene_Track) to stand the locomotive on.
Cab interiors
Both cabs have a driver's desk with three displays, levers, button fields and an emergency stop, plus two seats, black wall panels, the rear door, a shelf unit, a locker, a fire extinguisher and a ceiling light.
Using the model
- Pantographs: select one of
PAN_A1_Base,PAN_A2_Base,PAN_B1_BaseorPAN_B2_Base. In Object Properties, under Custom Properties, drag Raise from 0 (down) to 1 (up, about 5.8 m above the rail). The arms and the head follow by drivers.PAN_B1is raised in the saved file. - Rendering: press F12 in Blender to render the active camera. The colour management (Khronos PBR Neutral, exposure -2.2) is tuned so the sunlit DSB red matches photographs of EB 3202.
- Moving or posing: select everything in the
Vectron_EB3202collection and move it as one. Keep theCuttersobjects in the same place relative to the body. - Changing the livery: the paint is in the body
materials. Logos and lettering are separate objects in the
Decalscollection, so they can be hidden or replaced. - Other software: use the FBX or GLB in the
exportfolder. In both exports all modifiers are applied and the hidden helper objects, the track and the ground plane are left out. The pantographs are exported in their saved position. - Game engines: the model is made for rendering. For real-time use, reduce detail as needed, for example on the bogies, roof equipment and cab interiors.
Accuracy and known simplifications
The model was matched to photographs of EB 3202 itself through calibrated cameras, and to the manufacturer's drawings and data. Some details could not be measured and are reasoned estimates:
- The pantograph arm lengths and the raise path. The drawings only show the pantographs folded.
- The underframe box widths, and the small label texts and brake weight values, which are not legible in any photo. They are stand-ins of the right size and colour.
- The cab interior layout follows Siemens' interior images of the Vectron type, not EB 3202 itself.
- The lettering uses the Inter and Liberation typefaces as stand-ins for the original DSB and Siemens typefaces.
Source scripts
source_scripts/ contains the Blender Python scripts that
generated the model, numbered in build order (00_setup.py
to 17_save_model.py, with vlib.py as the
shared helper library). Scripts 14 to 16 build the farmland scene and
render the cinematic shots, and phdl.py downloads the free
Poly Haven assets that scene uses. They are included so you can study
and reuse the techniques. They were written for the author's own folders
and reference images, which are not included, so they will not run
unchanged. You do not need them to use the model.
