Introduction

DW Innovation ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website https://dwinnovation.dk and develops the Local Assistant software. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle data.

This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We have designed our website to minimise data collection — we use only our own first-party analytics and do not use any third-party tracking services such as Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or advertising networks.

Information We Collect

1. Website Analytics (First-Party)

We operate our own analytics system to understand how visitors use our website and to improve its performance. This system runs entirely on our own server — no analytics data is sent to or shared with third parties. When you visit our site, we may collect:

  • IP address — used to identify unique visitors, determine approximate geographic location, and detect automated bots
  • Browser and device information — browser name and version, operating system, and device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Pages visited — which pages you view, how long your session lasts, and how many pages you visit per session
  • Referrer information — the website or search engine that brought you to our site, including search keywords where available
  • Campaign parameters — UTM tags if you arrive via a marketing link (e.g. utm_source, utm_medium)

We use the free ip-api.com service to look up approximate geographic location (country, city, region) from IP addresses. This lookup happens on our server — your browser does not contact ip-api.com directly. The results are cached in our database to reduce repeated lookups.

2. Download Tracking

When you download Local Assistant, we record the download event on our server. This includes the software version, your IP address, browser information, and the referring page. We use this data to understand adoption patterns and to ensure our download infrastructure works correctly.

3. Contact Form

When you contact us through our website, we collect:

  • Your name and email address (so we can respond to you)
  • Your message
  • Your IP address (for spam prevention and rate limiting)

Cookies & Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by your browser. We use a minimal number of cookies — all of which are first-party (set by our own domain). We do not use any third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

Cookies We Set

Cookie Purpose Duration Category
PHPSESSID Maintains your session while browsing (e.g. form submissions, CSRF protection) Session Essential
dw_cookie_consent Remembers your cookie preferences so we do not ask again on every visit 1 year Essential

We do not set any advertising, marketing, or third-party tracking cookies.

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking Cookie Settings. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies may affect site functionality.

External Resources

Our website loads a small number of resources from external content delivery networks (CDNs) to provide fonts and icons. When your browser requests these resources, the CDN provider may receive your IP address and standard request headers. We do not control these providers' data practices, but we have selected them carefully:

  • Font Awesome (via cdnjs.cloudflare.com) — icon library. Cloudflare's CDN privacy policy applies.
  • Google Fonts (via fonts.googleapis.com) — web fonts (Outfit, DM Sans). Google states it does not use font requests for tracking or profiling.

Our home page includes an embedded YouTube video player. When this page loads, your browser may connect to YouTube/Google servers, which may set their own cookies. This is the only instance of third-party embedded content on our site.

Local Assistant Software

Local Assistant is designed for complete privacy. The software runs entirely on your local computer and:

  • Does not transmit your conversations to any server
  • Does not collect usage data, analytics, or telemetry
  • Does not require an account or registration
  • Stores all data locally in a SQLite database on your machine
  • Does not phone home, check for updates automatically, or send crash reports

The only external connections Local Assistant makes are when you explicitly enable optional features such as web search or text-to-speech. These features are disabled by default and must be turned on manually in the application settings.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Website improvement — understanding which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and which features are popular helps us prioritise development efforts
  • Technical monitoring — detecting and mitigating automated bots, abuse, and security threats
  • Download insights — tracking download volumes and patterns to understand software adoption
  • Communication — responding to your inquiries and support requests submitted via the contact form

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Legitimate interest — for operating first-party website analytics, security monitoring, and bot detection. We have assessed that our interest in understanding site performance and protecting against abuse does not override your rights and freedoms, especially given that no data is shared with third parties.
  • Consent — for analytics cookies, which you can accept or decline via our cookie consent banner. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contractual necessity — for processing contact form submissions to respond to your inquiries.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties.

All analytics data is stored on our own server and is accessible only to DW Innovation. We may disclose information only if required by law, legal process, or to protect the safety and rights of ourselves or others.

Data Retention

  • Analytics data (visitor records, sessions, page views) — retained for operational use and may be purged periodically at our discretion. We do not retain analytics data indefinitely.
  • GeoIP cache — location lookup results are cached for 30 days, then automatically removed.
  • Contact form submissions — retained for as long as necessary to address your inquiry, then deleted.
  • Download records — retained for statistical purposes.

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:

  • HTTPS (TLS) encryption for all website communications
  • CSRF token protection on all forms
  • Rate limiting on API endpoints and form submissions
  • Parameterised database queries to prevent SQL injection
  • Regular security monitoring and software updates
  • Database access restricted to authorised personnel only

Your Rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable data protection laws, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data
  • Right to restrict processing — request that we limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw cookie consent at any time via Cookie Settings

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@dwinnovation.dk. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For Denmark, this is the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet).

Children's Privacy

Our website and services are not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy & Cookie Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Material changes will be highlighted through a notice on our website.
